And for me personally, I will not entertain a romance or sexual interest that does not uplift me the same way my friends do. And that is my bare minimum and that should be everyone’s bare minimum because your friends are the ones that care for you, they hold you, they love you, they support you, they tell you what it is immediately.

Statement from Ashabi: The Ace Flag Revision Survey, Launched on April 6th, is a project created by Ashabi of Ace In Grace. The goal is to 'possibly' change the meaning of the White Stripe within the Asexual Flag [Current official meaning represents 'Non Ace Partners & Allies’]. Since its creation over 10+ years ago, there have been no revisions to the flag, despite many of our queer brothers and sisters changing theirs to be more inclusive. The desire to change the official meaning would allow more voices within the ace community to become more active and contribute something meaningful that would allow us all to feel welcome.

This week, Ashabi Owagboriaye (she/they) shares the meaning behind the white stripe in the ace flag and why she’s launched an ace flag survey as a result. You will learn: 1. What they think about the intersection of transness and asexuality 2. Why openness can influence somebody and carry a generation in either direction if you’re not careful 3. How it feels like to have people come to them as an elder queer
